ASHBOURNE RESIDENCE

The brief was for an addition to an existing Mt.Gambier limestone house which had been built by the owner many years before, to accommodate the family and provide a place for visitors to stay. Other issues such as access, entry, privacy within the home were also addressed. The solution involved re-routing the driveway to a new entrance door, providing undercover parking opening directly into the home, and accommodation for future guests in a separate wing. Energy efficiency was a priority of the client. New walls are constructed in limestone to match the original, but this time two skins were used, with insulation placed in the cavity between. Windows are double glazed timber, and all doors & windows have air seals. External shutters provide shading to the small West windows, and to the East windows which have a view to Mt.Macedon. The addition won ‘Best Renovation’ and ‘Master Builder of the Year’ for B.J.Morrison Constructions who built the work.
