COUNTRY GATES COTTAGE | |

This is one of only a few strawbale homes in Australia which have been built using the loadbearing method, where the strawbale walls carry the roof load. The simple rectangular plan and hip roof suits this technique, providing a similar load on all four external walls. The client had requested a building in keeping with other buildings in the area constructed on stone, sometimes rendered, with hip roof & verandahs all around, which also allowed a design which could take advantage of the loadbearing method. The house serves as a fully self contained holiday rental cottage. |
